National Preparedness Month, Ready or Not?

It may seem overwhelming or unimportant to get prepared, but we know from recent floods, hurricanes and tornadoes that taking steps ahead of time can help each of us, our families and our communities respond better and stay safer in a disaster.

September is National Preparedness Month. The American Red Cross joins the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and a coalition of more than 1,500 organizations in helping us get prepared. Learn the three recommended preparedness actions to Be Red Cross Ready for emergencies: get a kit; make a plan; be informed. Body Found in Salmon Falls River Identified As Local Family's Brother

The state coroner has informed the family of Donald Meattey, that it was his body that was found in the Salmon Falls River on September 2.

The Meattey family would like to thank everyone who has sent their support, given comfort and patience during this ordeal.

Donald Meattey went missing from his home in Somersworth on August 10. Since then, family members, friends, and volunteers have been searching for him.

Have you seen Donald Meattey? His cousin Terri Hemeon of Northwood and other family members are looking for him.

Donald had just recently moved to Somersworth from Rochester when he went for a walk and has not returned. He is 37 years old, with light brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5'8" tall, weighs 135 pounds and walks with a limp. Donald grew up in the Barrington area.

Donald was last seen on August 10, 2008 in Somersworth. At that time he was wearing a red baseball cap with a skull on it, a black US Army shirt, tan pants and Vans sneakers. [more]

Quick Update on DOT Meeting About Routes 4/107

Twenty-two residents responded within 24 hours to my request for comments regarding traffic problems at the intersection of 107 and 4 in Epsom. While suggested solutions were not all the same, there was unanimity that something must be done.

The quick response allowed for the presentation of input from those most familiar with the problem. At the meeting, which took place on August 28 with Transportation Commissioner George Campbell and his staff, the Commissioner pledged that he would begin the process needed to determine if a traffic signal was warranted. Passport Day at Kingston Post Office

The Kingston NH Post Office will host a Passport Day event Wednesday September 10, 2008, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Prepare and submit passport applications, with photo service on site. Since parents must be present to apply for a passport for an under 16 year old child, Wednesday is the perfect day to apply for the whole family. [more]

Multiple constituents have expressed concern about the number of major accidents, and the difficulty of safely making a left turn, at the intersection of Routes 107 and 4 going north from Deerfield. There have been some, although fewer, concerns expressed about the intersection where Route 107 meets Route 4 coming from the north. Working with State Senator Jack Barnes, we have sought help from the Department of Transportation to find a solution. [more]
